Lexington Missouri is a small town with a big history. Dating back to the 1820’s as an encampment for fur traders, it went on to see a Civil War battle fought at its doorstep, a tragic riverboat catastrophe with the sinking of The Saluda, and Jesse Jame’s first bank holdup in what is now Fredrickson’s Fine Wines and Spirits building. Sam Walton was born here, and his boyhood home has been lovingly restored. The Pony Express was first conceived here, the world-famous Wentworth Military Academy calls Lexington home, and many of the historic trails that led America west converge at this locale. The town boasts many beautiful bed and breakfasts, as well as motels, and local restaurants provide excellent cuisine. Lexington is also quickly becoming known as a hub for antique hunters who are looking for something truly unique.
